AGED CARE JOBS BECKON!
The first
graduates of ECG’s (Education Centre Gippsland) new Certificate
in Aged Care course offered in the Latrobe Valley are reaping
the benefits of an aged care employment boom.
ECG Tutor
in Aged Care Services Di Clarke said graduates who had applied
for jobs were finding work quickly.
“Latrobe
Valley mum Kum Kim received a job offer within weeks of
completing her course and is working at St Hillarys in Morwell.
Jessica Nagara has also been working
at St Hillarys, Stacey
Venables is working in aged care in Bayswater, while
Wendy Cook, who studied Home and Community Care with the group,
is working at Latrobe City.”
Mrs Clarke
said while the economy was experiencing a downturn, job demand
in the aged care sector was not likely to slow.
“Our aging
population and the number of baby boomers reaching retirement
age has created demand for accredited aged care workers.
“This has
created a wonderful opportunity for people seeking a career
change or who want to get back into the workforce to get
themselves a quaification that leads to meaningful employment.”
For Kum Kim
who raised a family for more than twenty years, the course has
opened the door for her to get her first job and a new career.
“My children
are grown up now and I wanted to do something for me so I
started the course and loved it. It has increased my confidence,
given me skills, and who knows I may even go on to further study
in nursing. It has made me realise that if you really want to do
something, the opportunities are here, and you can do it.”
Tutor Dianne
Clarke said a big value of ECG’s Certificate programs is the
field placements where students get hands-on job experience.
“Students
attend structured classes at ECG’s Traralgon training centre two
days per week and also spend one day a week in field placement.
This gives students an opportunity to put what they learn in the
classroom into practice and also demonstrate their ability to
potential employers. “
ECG
Workplace and Industry Manager Sharon Clements said ECG has just
launched a new program of courses at its new training centre
located in the RACV building in Kay Street Traralgon.
“Courses
being offered are in response to increasing industry demand for
people with accredited qualifications in areas such as
children’s services, aged care, home and community care, retail,
business, financial services and training and assessment.
ECG’s aim is
to build the Centre’s training offerings to provide local people
with opportunities to access quality and accredited training
that lead to real job outcomes,
ECG also
offers hair and beauty courses from its new Hair Training Salon
in Franklin Street Traralgon and operates campuses at Warragul,
Leongatha, Morwell and Pakenham.
