NEW HAIR TRAINING SALON OFFERS DIPLOMA FIRST
Salon managers or those wanting to start a hair or beauty salon
have a helping hand with ECG (Education Centre Gippsland)
offering a first at its new Warragul Hair training centre -
Diploma in Salon Management.
The training salon, which opened at the McMillan campus this
month, is a fully equipped salon established to address skill
shortages in the hair industry by increasing opportunities for
local people to gain accredited training and qualifications.
Ms Paterson said student numbers in ECG’s Hair courses had
doubled since offering Certificate 2 and 3 courses for the first
time last year.
“Establishing a dedicated training salon on campus will increase
our ability to expand courses and increase student numbers. As a
result we are now offering Certificate II to Diploma level
courses and have added Beauty and Nails to our programs.
“The new Diploma in Salon Management represents an exciting
opportunity for Gippsland because it means that local people
don’t have to travel to Melbourne to access management level
training relevant to the hair industry. It follows increasing
demand from industry for management level training and aims to
equip people with knowledge in managing staff, financials,
business planning, marketing and more.”
Ms Paterson said a new Certificate 4 course for qualified
hairdressers was also being offered for the first time this year
to help Qualified Hairdressers advance their skills or allow
them to specialise in a particular area such as colour
technology or cutting.
“National skills shortages in the hair industry have opened
opportunities for eligible people to receive free training as
ECG is delivering the Commonwealth Government’s Productivity
Places Program.”
She said ECG had increased
its hair and beauty team comprising 9 staff members all with
extensive industry experience. They include well known local
stylists Josie Prestipino, Leonie Paterson, Kylie Henry,
Leah Hancock, Jo Sharp, Deb Handley, beautician
Danielle Gallagher, Kylie Deering and Katie Armstrong.
“With the training salon up and running, ECG plans to open the
salon to the public on various days to enable people to enjoy a
complete range of hairdressing services in exchange for a
donation to a worthy cause.
