TASTE OF THE COUNTRY ON CAMPUS!

Supported employees of Mawarra’s successful Country Kitchen Catering are giving staff and students at Warragul’s ECG McMillan campus a taste of wholesome country food.

A partnership between Mawarra and ECG has led to the launch of a new cafeteria and dining service on campus open to staff, students and the community.

Mawarra Chief Executive Officer Gordon Jamieson welcomed the opportunity ECG was providing to give Mawarra employees an opportunity to build a viable business on campus.

“Mawarra supports the development of people affected by disabilities, and Country Kitchen Catering is one of the enterprises we operate to provide people with meaningful work to develop their potential.

“We have a very capable team of 7 employees working in Country Kitchen under the guidance of Chris Richardson. The ECG partnership is a new concept for us because it offers an opportunity to build a regular weekly business on campus and for our staff to further develop catering and customer service skills.

“While the team is experienced in catering for events and functions they don’t get the opportunity to deal with customers on a regular basis so the campus business provides an opportunity to really bring out their potential.”

ECG Chief Executive Officer CEO Bernadette O’Connor said the partnership was a win for both organisations.

“It will provide an opportunity for Mawarra to extend employment opportunities for people to work in the hospitality area and at the same time the cafeteria will contribute to building the vibrancy of this campus. It also broadens the diversity of people working from McMillan.”

Ms O’Connor said student numbers at McMillan were steadily growing in line with ECG’s plans to revitalise the campus into a regional learning centre where staff, students, industry and community can engage together.

“Having a place to meet for a cuppa or bite to eat adds another dimension to the campus.

The cafeteria and dining service will initially operate each Tuesday and Wednesday for morning tea and lunch.
